The United States has delivered two new shipments of weapons to the Syrian Kurdish forces leading the Raqqa operation.
According to a report by Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency, 100 trucks, loaded with military equipment, entered the Kurdish areas in northern Syria via the Iraqi borders on July 22nd.
The report claimed that 80 more trucks delivered further military supplies to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) which is the leading force in the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF).
The shipments contained 12,000 AK47s, 6,000 automatic rifles, 3,500 heavy weapons, 3,000 RPG-7s and 1,000 AT-4s. The agency claimed to have obtained documents from the US Department of Defence.
The delivery also includes military equipment.
The SDF is now fighting in Raqqa to dislodge the Islamic State (IS) militants from the strategic city. It has so far managed to liberate nearly half of Raqqa with the aerial support from the US-led coalition.
