Gas wastage in Iraq:- By Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri
An iconic figure of the Oil and gas industry of Iraq has said that the wastage of gas in Iraq is beyond what is accepted. Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri has stated that the Iraqi oil fields flare more gas than what is acceptable around the world. Ahmed Al-Jibouri bemoaned the continued flaring of gas which has not been stopped or at least reduced to prevent losing billions of dollars on a daily basis.
According to information revealed by Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri, Iraq flares around 700 million cubic feet of gas on a daily basis. Ahmed Al-Jibouri said that this is a ridiculous of amount gas that is wastage on a daily basis. He further added that he wished the government of Iraq could do something about it to avoid losing an excessive amount of money on a daily basis.
In a bid to justify his calls for the reduction of gas flaring, Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri further added that other oil producing countries do not flare such an amount of gas. Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri later said that when compared with the amount of natural gas that other countries flare, the 700 million cubic feet of accompanying gas that the country flares is definitely what is beyond normal.
Ahmed Al-Jibouri made reference to countries such as Nigeria and Russia which have managed to reduce the amount of gas that they flare on a daily basis. Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri later called upon the government of Iraq to emulate the steps that the other oil producing countries have taken to curb the amount of accompanying gas that is flared on a daily basis.
In conclusion, Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri said that the wastage of gas in Iraq has to be stopped at all costs if the government is to avoid wasting money. Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri also added that the government of Iraq can start generating income from the sale of natural gas.
