Saudi Arabia’s state media has reported that the country’s King has ordered the reopening of that country’s border to Qatar for purposes of facilitating the hajj pilgrimage which takes place on an annual basis. This is the first sign of calmness since the region suffered its worst diplomatic crisis in many years.
A high profile figure of the oil and natural gas sector of the Middle East Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri who has been following the story from its roots said that the move may signal the end of the region’s fiercest crisis in years. Ahmed Al-Jibouri further added that such a move has not been taken since the diplomatic drift took root in June. Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri explained that his sources revealed that during the first week of June, Saudi Arabia ordered the closure of the country’s border with Qatar after the two countries entered into a diplomatic dispute. Ahmed Al-Jibouri further added that the move came as Saudi Arabia and her allies severed diplomatic ties with Qatar accusing that country of aiding terrorists and extremists in their quest to destabilize the region.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri who has been following the developments pertaining to the crisis in the gulf crisis said that he is fully aware of the fact that a Doha envoy had visited the most powerful Crown prince in Saudi Arabia. According to Ahmed Al-Jibouri who has been following the story, this is the first public high level encounter involving officials from the two nations. Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri stated that the information pertaining to the high level public encounter involving the two nations was released by Saudi Press Agency.
Ahmed Al-Jibouri later added that the state media reported that the Saudi King ordered the reopening of the border in order to allow pilgrims from Qatar to enter. The state media which Dr. Ahmed Al-Jibouri has been following for the past few days also added that the king ordered that Saudi airlines be allowed to pick up pilgrims from Doha airport in Qatar.
